Description
This watercolor painting depicts a dramatic alpine landscape in the Italian Alps, where steep, rocky mountains rise above a grassy foreground and a cluster of buildings nestled at the base of the cliffs. The composition emphasizes the contrast between the rugged peaks, the softness of the clouds, and the open meadow below, with the white of the paper preserved to create light and atmosphere. The foreground is painted with layered washes of green and ochre, suggesting a sunlit meadow. Quick, dry brushstrokes add texture to the grasses, while lighter areas of untouched paper create natural highlights that suggest sunlight glinting across the field. The midground features a group of buildings, painted with controlled, angular strokes in muted grays and browns.
