This watercolor painting depicts a quiet winter forest, where tall trees rise from a snow-covered ground. The composition captures the stillness of a cold day, with soft light filtering through the bare branches. The foreground shows a blanket of snow stretching across the ground, painted with cool washes of blue and violet to suggest long shadows cast by the trees and human traces. The untouched white of the paper forms the brightest highlights, giving the snow a crisp, luminous quality. The midground is filled with tall tree trunks, painted in deep browns and grays. Their vertical forms contrast with the horizontal sweep of shadows across the snow. Small touches of white paper along the bark suggest patches of snow clinging to the trunks. The background fades into a misty woodland, where thinner trees and branches are painted in soft washes of gray and brown. The blending of tones creates a hazy atmosphere, suggesting distance and depth.
