Description

This watercolor painting depicts a peaceful river winding through a forested valley in autumn in Gura Humorului, Romania. The composition balances the flowing water with the surrounding trees and distant hills, creating a calm and natural atmosphere. The foreground shows the riverbank with earthy browns and greens, leading into the reflective surface of the water. The river is painted with layered washes of blue and green, with lighter areas suggesting the play of sunlight on the surface. Small figures can be seen standing in the shallow water, adding a sense of scale and life to the scene. The midground is filled with dense vegetation along the river’s edge. On the left, tall evergreens rise in deep green tones, while the right side glows with autumn colors of orange, yellow, and gold. Softer washes and blended edges suggest grasses and shrubs along the banks. The background features rolling hills painted in muted browns and grays, fading into the distance with softened edges to create atmospheric perspective. A single mountain peak rises gently on the horizon, anchoring the composition. The sky is painted with a pale blue wash, streaked with soft horizontal bands of cloud, adding depth and openness to the scene. The technique combines transparent washes for water and sky, layered tones for trees, and soft blending for distant hills. The balance of warm autumn colors with cool blues and greens creates harmony throughout the painting.
